Surah Anfal:2

Q1. What divine favours has Allah mentioned in context of the Battle of Badr?

Answer:

1.Slumber of comfort:
Allah (SWT) covered the Muslims with sleep. The Muslims, who were tired after the long journey, became fresh and alert again.
Allah (SWT) also showed the disbelievers a little less to the Muslims, which boosted their morale.

2.Rain from the sky:
Allah SWT sent down rain from which the Muslims, who had no water supply, quenched their own and their animals' thirst, and also cleansed themselves.

3.Support of angels:
When Prophet SAW requested help from Allah, He sent down 1000 angels.

4.Terror in disbelievers:
Allah put fear of the Muslims in the heart of the disbelievers.

5.Miracle of the Prophet SAW:
The Prophet SAW, on Allah's command, picked up a handful of dust and threw it towards the disbelievers, Allah SWT made that handful reach every disbeliever's eyes, reducing their visibility.

Q2.  What instructions has Allah given to the believers in case they come face to face with the disbelievers in battle?
Answer:
"O you who have believed, when you meet those who disbelieve advancing [for battle], do not turn to them your backs [in flight]. And whoever turns his back to them on such a day, unless swerving [as a strategy] for war or joining [another] company, has certainly returned with anger [upon him] from Allah , and his refuge is Hell - and wretched is the destination."(15-16)

Allah has given the following instructions to the Muslims:

1.Remain steadfast and firm:
Allah ordered the believers that if they come face to face with the disbelievers, they should remain firm and do not, in any case, run away.

2.Punishment for disobeying:
As for those who retreat from battle, out of fear of being killed, for them is Allah's wrath and Hell as an eternal abode.

3. Conditions in which retreat is allowed:
Retreat is allowed if its done
  • as a war strategy
  • to join with their own troops

Q3. What warning has Allah given to the disbelievers?

Answer:
"If you [disbelievers] seek the victory - the defeat has come to you. And if you desist [from hostilities], it is best for you; but if you return [to war], We will return, and never will you be availed by your [large] company at all, even if it should increase; and [that is] because Allah is with the believers." (19)

1.Victory for the truthful:
The disbelievers prayed for the truthful to be victorious. Allah says, do you see now that Islam is the true path?

2.Repent:
Allah gives the disbelievers another chance saying, if you stop disbelieving and repent, it will be good for you.

3.Warning if they still disbelieve:
Allah then warns the disbelievers, that if you do not desist and return to attack, you shall fail, however big your army may be.
